Henry Parker only wants to make his mark in the journalism industry. He aspires to be the next Bob Woodward or Carl Bernstein. Instead, he finds himself on the run with an entire city searching for him. Some of those searching for him want him dead. Will Henry unravel what is really going on before he winds up dead? Jason Pinter carefully lures the reader into a very intriguing thriller. As details of THE MARK are gradually unveiled, the true heart of the story becomes readily apparent. It is difficult to discuss the genius of THE MARK without revealing any spoilers, as part of the thrill of the tale is in the presentation. The majority of the story is told from the first person perspective of Henry, and so the reader remains in the dark about much of the situation until each detail is uncovered by Henry. Character development is key to the success of THE MARK. The motivations of the characters must be known in order to fully comprehend the reasons such extraordinary incidents occur. Henry’s motivations are clear from the beginning, as are those of the people pursuing him. Amanda Davies is a bit more difficult to understand. It took me awhile to get really comfortable with her reasons for continuing to accompany Henry, but she certainly shows herself to be a good judge of character by doing so. THE MARK is a thriller that is sure to keep the reader turning the pages, if only to see what happens next. Jason Pinter’s ability to maintain such a high level of suspense throughout the story is commendable. Jason Pinter hits THE MARK with this one! Reviewed by Debbie |
