Wolfe “Boo” Boone is to Skary, Indiana what Stephen King is to Maine. Wolfe is a horror writer, and tourists flock to Skary making the town and its inhabitants rather successful. But Boo has converted to a life of Christianity and has no desire to write horror novels any more. What will become of the town without the books that make Skary… Skary? While hypocrites plot for Boo to give up his newfound faith, the town sweetheart discovers Boo is… handsome!

What an unexpectedly sweet and inspiring story! I love reading about small towns and their quirky inhabitants and Skary was bursting with quirkiness. The town was practically a character unto itself and it provided the perfect setting. Imagine a town decorated for Halloween every day andhaving to dress up as a ghoul to go to work.

Not everyone embraced the lifestyle of creepiness, and the town’s golden girl is one of them. Ainsley Parker learns there is more to Wolfe than meets the eye and this man new to his faith has something to teach everyone, even those who have known God their entire lives. That is what makes this book so charming. The church-going folks discover what their faith really means from the most unlikeliest of sources in Wolfe. He turns hypocrites into genuine believers simply by following his own new path.

While I understood Wolfe felt he had to turn his back on his horrible writing subject, I would have enjoyed it if he had turned it into something positive. Perhaps becoming inspired more by Frank Peretti and keeping with his spiritual beliefs as he wrote.

The story of Wolfe’s conversion and reason for it was incredibly touching and was a beautiful reminder of the power each of us has as believers in Christ to truly help one another.

While this is Christian fiction, and discusses prayer and other things faith related, it wasn’t heavy-handed and could be enjoyed by anyone. It was light-hearted enough to make me laugh, and touching enough to bring a tear to my eye.

I cannot wait to go back to Skary, Indiana with Boo Who, Boo Hiss and Boo Humbug!
