Small time Private Investigator, Harper Blaine, acquired a unique ability, on the night that she died. The two minutes she spent in the hereafter now allow her into the Grey, walking with one foot in the paranormal and one foot with the living. Being a Greywalker gives her insight into her latest case. A professor at a university has hired her to determine if the poltergeist his group has created in an experiment is real, or being simulated. When all of Harper’s evidence points to the poltergeist being real and a member of the group is murdered, it looks like the ghost did it. But is the ghost finished, or hungry for more? This is Kat Richardson’s second book in the Greywalker series. Poltergeist could possibly stand on its own, but is a more fulfilling experience when coupled with its predecessor. I’m definitely glad I read the first book which gives an in depth background into Harper’s challenges in dealing with the Grey. I really like how the author infuses history into the story. It was interesting enough to make me do some more reading on my own about Seattle history, particularly Bertha Knight Landes, first woman to be elected mayor of a major American city. I also had to do some more reading on the Canadian Philip Experiment. A real treat for me was the details about the city of Seattle itself. It's one of my favorite places to visit and I look forward to checking out a few new places on my next trip. While the story could drag on a bit in places, the characters were engaging and the poltergeist phenomena kept me turning pages. I have to thank Richardson for writing a book without an F bomb every other word and unlikely sexual situations, which adding nothing to the advancement of the story. I’m pleased to say that this series seems to actually focus more on characterization and plot. Overall a good book, and I'm looking forward to Underground and Vanished.
