Born with second sight, Loni MacEwen bears both the joy and pain of her gift. Starting over in Crystal Falls she has vowed to ignore the visions that have only brought her heartbreak. Then she meets her dream cowboy, the man she’s had visions of since her childhood, and realizes that she has no choice but to warn him that his son is in danger.

Rancher Clint Harrigan is suspicious of Loni MacEwen, especially since he doesn’t have a son. But then he sees her predictions unfolding on the news and knows he can’t turn his back on an orphaned boy lost in the dense Oregon wilderness. Loni is certain that Clint is the only one who can save the boy, and as the two rush into the woods on a mad search, their feelings grow into an unexpected love.

Nobody writes ranchers like Catherine Anderson! She has a way of turning cowboys into a special breed of men—tough talking, irresistible heroes that worm their way deep into readers’ hearts. I really enjoyed Clint Harrigan’s fresh tell-it-like-it-is attitude, and watching he and his brothers banter back and forth is such a delight. It certainly makes me eager for the rest of the Harrigan brothers’ stories.

One of the things I loved best about MORNING LIGHT, however, is its unique perspective. The fact that Loni has the sight in and of itself is not unique, however, Ms. Anderson chooses to look at her gift at a truly interesting angle, giving it a religious spin. Is Loni considered a “prophet” of sorts, or is her psychic ability nothing more than a “devil’s” curse?

Though the focus on religion might turn some readers off, I really enjoyed the way it played into both Loni and Clint’s conflict. Loni wrestles to come to grips with her gift in light of her faith, and Clint has to figure out where Loni fits in with the vows he made for his faith. Throughout the book we are treated to some wonderful verbal sparring between the two, as well as some great emotional scenes.

MORNING LIGHT definitely showcases Catherine Anderson at her best. With complex, multi-faceted characters, thought provoking issues, and a sweet contemporary romance guaranteed to bring tears to readers’ eyes, MORNING LIGHT is a highly recommended, and thoroughly engrossing read.
