There was a brief inexplicable scent on the wind, to Clay it smelled of Talin, but that was impossible. The scent lingered on his mind enough that he had to follow where it lead, and it led to the one person he thought he’d lost forever. Talin McKade is the one woman Clay Bennett can not forget, and the one woman he couldn’t protect. Twenty years have come and gone and he has never forgave himself or grieved for the girl he loved above all else. When he learns that she kept her life a secret from him, will he be able to forgive her instinctual betrayal? Nalini Singh has held me captive with the world she has created, but her characters are so intense I find it difficult to leave them behind when I close the book. I was first introduced to the Psy-Changling series in a blog challenge for Nalini’s first book in this series Slave to Sensation. Before discovering this author, I never realized how integral world building could be to the development of the characters; however I will always compare all others to Nalini Singh because she gave me a distinct appreciation for the world and characters she created. Clay and Talin had instant chemistry, their relationship was filled with a realness and rawness which radiates off the page. Singh created Clay as a typical alpha male, as a reader I could feel the way he stalked around Talin, protecting her the way she didn’t allow him to throughout their lives. His protectiveness felt as if it was a character in it’s own right and anytime an author can convey both sides of a man with such clarity instantly becomes a favorite in my book. I am eager to find out what happens in the next installment Hostage of Pleasure due out September 2008. Reviewed by Merry |
