The youngest Loring sister Lilian is not only the most adventuresome of the three but probably the most stubborn and her vow to NEVER marry is one she means to keep. After witnessing her mothers abuse from her father Lily was steadfast in her belief that to marry would be a fate worse than death. However, it was becoming increasingly hard to fend off the unwanted attentions of Heath Griffin, the Marquess of Claybourne whose resolve to win over Lily was just as steadfast. Trying to elude her persistent suitor, Lily sent up a blind trail then ran off to London to hide in the last place a gentleman would look; a boardinghouse set up by two old bawds to house the ladies of the demimonde. But, if this ploy was meant to dissuade, it had the opposite effect, for Heath was determined to make Lily his wife and to gain her love. *** Nicole Jordan is a gem of an author and I truly love her ability to write a beautifully sensual romance. Heath was described beautifully as a most ardent lover that could make a woman weep for joy, and Lily, even through all her talk of being perfectly content to be a spinster was not above being attracted and totally turned on by him. As most romances go after an extensive and thorough chase, our hero does win the heroine. Unfortunately not only was Heath patience personified in his pursuit, but good gosh he should have quit well before Lily finally succumbed as the chase and her continued “I’ll never marry you” over and over became just boring. Heath was an absolute divine hero. He offered Lily everything, wealth, a title, his love, faithfulness, independence, and knowing of her parents devastating union, swore he would never, ever harm her as the author clearly demonstrated his gentleness and kindness. But none of this was enough for our heroine, who I truly was getting frustrated with. Lily’s stubbornness became almost too much to bear, and at over 400 pages this started to become increasingly boring. While trying hard to finish reading this, in my mind overly long book, it seemed as though some of the facts of the past were repetitive explanations found earlier in the book. This is not to say that this was not a well-written effort on the part of Ms. Jordan. Whereas I found book 2 of this series TO BED A BEAUTY a wonderful story and highly recommended, TO SEDUCE A BRIDE came off as overly long and boring with a frustrating heroine.
