Roslyn Loring is the middle child of three beautiful independent sisters. Through the marriage of her oldest sister Arabella, both Roslyn and Lily are now financially comfortable enough to not need to marry. Only what Roslyn wants most is marriage and a family of her own; more importantly a marriage of the heart with reciprocal love.  The thing Roslyn has observed over the years is that husbands tend to love and lavish time with their mistresses, not with their wives. Roslyn sets out to learn tricks of the trade from a very dear friend and successful courtesan on how to fan a man’s passion.   Disguising herself to attend a demimonde ball, Roslyn attracts the ardor and attention of none other than the Drew Moncrief, the Duke of Arden a reputedly divine lover but a confirmed bachelor and best friend of her new brother-in-law!

*** First and foremost I must say, Nicole Jordan knows how to write sensual love scenes.  Reading and reviewing books is my passion, but as most voracious readers will tell you, or in my case, I’ve been breezing through a lot of the love scenes as they tend to become boring, repetitive, and unexceptional.  Like the saying goes, you see one you see them all!  However, this time, I read every titillating detail and savored each of the moments.

During the masquerade ball Roslyn heard that Drew was described as being a magnificent lover amongst the demimonde. Ms. Jordan officially proved that point as she story progressed into the story and described Drew’s amorous encounters with Roslyn.  Whew, steamy and sublime!

Both Roslyn and Drew were interesting characters, and I loved the way Roslyn described her version of love to Drew. Having heard his declarations of never falling in love and no matter her attraction Roslyn knew he would never suit.  It was just the challenge Drew’s ego needed (though he didn’t realize it at first) to prove he was up to the task to show Roslyn the difference between lust and love.  Under the skillful writing of Ms. Jordan, her leads fully came to life providing a highly entertaining romance and I found myself cheering them on.

A great supporting cast rounded out Drew and Roslyn’s story admirably and the secondary storyline mystery of why Roslyn’s good friend Winifred was being targeted by a thief, turned into a lovely and emotional foray that allowed the cynical Duke of Arden to impress Roslyn with his gentle side.  Dialogs were honest, thoughtful and witty.

What started out as a run-of-the-mill overdone theme of the cynical rake meets headstrong lady turned out to be a uniquely satisfying and compelling romance that will make sit you sit up and take note.  I love well written intelligent and steamy romances and highly recommend  this book number two in Jordan’s new Courtship War trilogy!
