I had been waiting anxiously for Everod’s story and wow did you ever deliver! Of the former three books to this series, WICKED UNDER THE COVERS, SINFUL BETWEEN THE SHEETS, and NAUGHTY BY NATURE Ms. Pierce created complex and totally creative characters who leapt off the pages to become three dimensional characters. Each and every one had been thoughtfully fleshed out, original with strong motivations, and filled with real emotion. Everod is by far one of the more highly imaginative characters I’ve ever come across, especially having survived having his throat cut by his enraged father. This scenario sent chills up my spine each time I thought about it. The plotting of this story as well as the lively pace kept my interest high, and the sensual seduction by Everod was simply divine. Maura never had a chance, other than the fact that Everod was so good at his seduction it had a boom-a-rang effect that her innocence, trust and passionate response seduced him. The inclusion of characters from the previous books in the series only added to the enjoyment as the former members of the band of rakes were settling down to pure domesticity. Only let me say, that their presence was a bonus if you’ve been following the series, but in no way must you read the other books to enjoy this completely stand alone volume. Of course, I recommend you do read them simply for the pure enjoyment of this remarkable authors work. Bottom line: SCANDALOUS BY NIGHT is a bona fide exhilarating sensual read that will have your toes curling leaving you completely sated by the romance, the satisfying edge of the seat ending, and waiting impatiently to read Cadd’s story – the last unwed member of le sauvages noble.
