In the second installment of Ms. Moning’s (KMM) ‘Fever’ series our heroine, MacKayla Lane, a 22 year old southern Georgia girl, knows she is a sidhe-seer (one who can see the Fae) and can slay some of the undead seely who are being let into the world by the Lord Master. Mac has also discovered she had been adopted and has met other sidhe-seers whom she is not sure of trusting; and is still searching to discover and slay the Fae’s dark Lord and Master for killing her sister Alina. Mac is also getting closer to the enigmatic Jericho Barrons, and has discovered what he is not, but still does not know what he is (definitely not totally human). While Barrons still acts as her protector – though Mac doesn’t really understand what Barrons really wants or what he is - Mac continues to resist the sexy lures of V’lane, a death-by-sex Fae, and is in very grave danger from an old enemy. *** Even though KMM raises more questions in each of the first two books in this Fever series, I have to say I am addicted and want more, more, more! Her whole concept and fantasy world building is extremely creative and original and while she still hasn’t let us know what Jericho Barrons is, (Lordy, but the suspense is killing me!) she has let us know what he is not. In the beginning when MacKayla was an innocent Georgia belle, spoiled and cosseted with no real direction of where her life was going, she has, since coming to Ireland to investigate her sister’s death, grown immensely, and is now learning more and more of her latent powers. In this second volume Mac has become something of a tough kick-ass strong heroine. BLOODFEVER the second book in the series, has found Mac in much more danger, now that she is discovering more and more about herself and discovering new enemies. The author has added in more new characters, some Mac thinks are on her side, and a lot more who she is not sure she should trust. Even though her association with Barrons has progressed to where he has smiled (once) and there have been kisses(!) between them, KMM is playing her cards very close to her chest in not giving much away about Barron’s secrets and whether Mac should really place her trust in him. All I can say is the puzzle is totally captivating and I cannot wait to find out more! I’m not
giving any spoilers away because when you get into a series such as this
the suspense and secrets are so much tastier when you have to wait it out.
This is sexy as all get out (with a bent toward the erotic) and the
adventure and suspense are non-stop. The author answers some questions, but
raises more and my expectations are fully whetted for the next installment
which one must assume will be as fascinating and captivating as this one.
