Crushed at having spent the last six years of her life pining away for a man who was not worthy of her Georgina Anderson wants nothing more than to be rid of all things English and return to America. Unfortunately, she and Mac, who accompanied her on her fool’s errand, had been robbed and they signed on to the Maiden Anne with Georgina disguised as a young cabin boy. All would have gone well had it not been for the fact that Captain James Malory recognized his new ‘cabin boy’ for the delectable prime ‘piece’ she was and would be highly anticipating the journey over the pond. *** As with all of the delightful Malory Audiobooks I’ve recently acquired written by Johanna Lindsey and read by the accomplished performer Laurel Merlington, GENTLE ROGUE was a complete joy. One of the high points of course was the fact that it starred James Malory who had sworn no woman alive would ever shackle him in matrimony. James was a “connoisseur of women” and had his full of how married women disrespected the sanctity of their marriage vows; especially where he was concerned. James was not about to marry another of these ‘faithless’ women. However, James’ resolve to remain unaffected by a woman was sorely tempted by the high spirited, intelligent and stunningly gorgeous American. Why James was so attracted he was even considering offering her the position of his ‘mistress’! Now, not that the book didn’t have some hilarious moments before James came to this conclusion, but before he could make ‘George’ (as he called her) his magnanimous offer she jumped aboard a Skylark ship and headed home without a ‘by your leave’. One can only imagine James mood to see his prize sailing off on another ship. What he didn’t know at the time was it was one of her brothers’ ships and they were very protective of their little sis! The adventure and pace is marvelous as the reader goes along for an enjoyable ride taking them from England, to the Caribbean, New England, and back to England all along with some extremely sensual and hilarious moments. (After all this is James Malory we speak of!) Bottom line: I don’t know if anyone can outshine James Malory as an unforgettable rakish hero, but the story is fun, witty, and quite steamy. Loved every minute of it and highly recommend this book and/or audiobook for a perfect pleasurable experience.
