It’s a mother’s nightmare and Milla Edge has lived it. Six weeks after the birth of her son Justin, Milla was brutally stabbed in the back when trying to fight off the kidnappers who had forcefully snatched him from her arms. Since then Milla has not given up hope even though her once happy marriage became ended up as the second casualty resulting from that fateful day. Now she spends her time at FINDERS, an organization she founded to help others find their lost and run away children. On an anonymous tip, Milla traveled to a small village in Mexico to track down the man she knew only as Diaz whom she thought was the man who stole her son – the man she had marked for life when she had gouged out his eye in the struggle to protect and save her baby. She discovered Diaz all right, but he wasn’t the one-eyed man she sought. Instead he turned out to be a tracker whom she later convinced to help her locate any clues to finding the people responsible for the kidnapping of her son. Lies and betrayals would result from friends, and enemies - but the sizzling attraction between Milla and the for hire assassin known as Diaz was keeping both parties minds on other things besides the dangerous trail they followed in order to shut down the baby smuggling and live organ donors racket that was going on. *** My God – what a superlative story! Emotional, heart wrenching, thrilling and oh so HOT! Linda Howard has a recipe for creating delicious romantic suspense thrillers and she hits the mark time after time! After reading DEATH ANGEL (highly recommended to anyone who has not read it yet) I could not think of how she could come up with anything as original and creative, but oh was I wrong. CRY NO MORE had me breathless from the very first pages to the last tear jerking ending! Ten years after having her six week old baby torn from her arms, Milla was still intent on finding her son. Not only could she not let it rest and go on with her life as so many others, family and friends suggested she do, Milla would not give up and the author was able to portray Milla’s fortitude and sense of purpose with every breath she took. If Milla could not locate Justin, she would do her utmost to see that any other missing child that came across her desk would be found; that another parent would either have their child returned or at least have some sort of closure and not live in the limbo that Milla has lived in. The author introduced several interesting male characters, one of which was James Diaz. Diaz was the name Milla thought belonged to the monster she had fought with for her child but she knew immediately after meeting him that he was not the one-eyed man she sought. However, Milla was at once wary of the danger she sensed the man Diaz presented, but she was also very aware of his male presence and of her awakening sensual response. Ms. Howard conveyed very well the wariness that both felt in the other’s company and capitalized on the sexual attraction Milla felt all the while cognizant of the fact that Diaz was an assassin for hire. Was this a good guy or a bad guy? Probably one of the things I loved best was how the author delved deep into James’ persona showing him to be lacking in finesse and social graces, but showing his gentleness in caring for Milla when she needed it most. The cast of secondary characters was superlative, and one of the villains was a big surprise, as was Milla’s reaction to the discovery of just what happened to her child and how she dealt with it. There were some very hot and sensual scenes as well as betrayals and highly emotional portions where I was sobbing right along with Milla. Bottom Line: CRY NO MORE is a fast paced thriller as both an emotional roller-coaster and one heck of a sensual romance which this reviewer highly recommends.
