To me, this story is an erotic version of the Will Smith movie Hitch with the focus on Kevin James's character. Ryan Anders, tired of being just friends with Mishon Lewis takes a class on 'How to be a Player' and transforms himself. The new Ryan immediately intrigues Mishon and a comedy of errors erupts as they try to 'out game' each other and not be the first to give into the powerful attraction they share.

Players novella is a fun, fast read and well worth picking up, especially for the price. Although this is a multi-cultural novel (the hero's white, the heroine's black) no emphasis is placed on skin color. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys erotic romance and says they don't pass books up based upon the color of someone's skin, but never actually picked up a novel with someone of color on the cover. (By the way, the cover of this book is hot.)

You could see genuine caring, especially on Ryan's part, between Ryan and Mishon that is not often found in erotic romance. As I ended Players I honestly believed that Mishon and Ryan could have a relationship that was based upon more than just sex. I enjoyed Mishon's confusion of wondering if Ryan was really serious about her or if he was just testing out the skills he learned in his class.

Although having said all this and having enjoyed the story, I wish a couple more pages were added to the first scene of this novel to showcase more character development. I needed more build-up in the way of dialogue and background on Mishon and Ryan's relationship prior to things changing. This is especially true on Mishon's side. If that would've happened, it would've made the "I love you" from Mishon at the end of the book more satisfying.

So in the end I enjoyed Players. It transported me while I was reading it. However, I'm a big re-reader and I doubt if I would re-read this novella. The content of the story is well worth the price and I'm adding this author to my too be read pile.
