Delphi has a task for Francesca Thorne. As a graduate of the Athena Academy and one of Oracle's agents, Chesca has a new mission: to profile Arachne and confirm the information provided by Salvatore Giambi (see STACKED DECK for more details). But will this put Chesca in danger? Will Evans is assigned to be her bodyguard. What secrets will be uncovered as they investigate the murky past of Arachne? MOVING TARGET is perhaps the weakest book in the Athena Force series. While the premise of a profiler sounds intriguing, the storyline never seems to really get going. The characters never quite seem to develop, and Chesca in particular is rather cold and distant. The romance angle is almost forced despite the fact that Will has so much potential as a hero. Without the background history provided in the prior books, particularly STACKED DECK, the storyline would be impossible to follow as the author attempts to begin linking together all of the pieces we've been slowly accumulating over the life of the series. Lori A. May has a difficult task with this, as it is always hard to keep the links going in a continuity series. Unfortunately, MOVING TARGET just didn't quite provide the "pop" I've come to expect from this line. Reviewed by Debbie |
