Lady Perdita Garland is reluctantly back in society after a serious riding accident nearly cost her the use of both her legs. Her mother, Lady Taversall, hopes to find a match for Perdita and has her eyes set on the Marquess of Petherbridge. Perdita isn’t quite so sold on Charles Dalton as his flamboyant attire and obnoxious daughter are more than a little off-putting. However, circumstances are about to throw them together and only true love can stand a chance with the obstacles in their paths…. I’d wondered what sort of story Lynne Connolly would craft for Perdita and I was not disappointed! Perdita’s story of recovery touched my heart in A CHANCE TO DREAM. Her spunky attitude in spite of such a horrific tragedy endeared her character to me and she is a character who more than deserves her happily-ever-after! MET BY CHANCE is the third book in the series but can easily be read as a stand alone. However, I would suggest reading at least A CHANCE TO DREAM first in order to get a taste of Perdita’s fight to recover from her riding accident. Lynne Connolly does a marvelous job with character development. So many of the characters evoke a strong reaction, both positive and negative. Aimée produced perhaps the strongest reaction in me and I could only applaud Perdita at her control in the face of such unspeakable behaviors. And let’s face it, who didn’t want to smack a bit of sense into Millicent? Only Lynne Connolly could create such vividly drawn characters! MET BY CHANCE is a very satisfying read. Readers will experience a gamut of emotions, from anger to tears to happiness, while seeing history come to life. Lynne Connolly’s attention to detail is meticulous as she provides yet another fascinating foray into society life. The thought provoking portrait of the inadvertent harm caused by lax parenting is an added bonus and appealed to my social worker side. Excellent! Reviewed by Debbie |
