Jackie Brighton knew something was wrong from the moment she woke up. Surely she didn’t party so much the night before that ending up in a dumpster would have made sense! And just who was that handsome man she remembers meeting after having just a few too many martinis? Jackie’s world is about to be turned upside down as she is now a succubus. Suddenly the politics of dealing with vampires and fallen angels is about to make Jackie’s frustrations with her human boss seem totally insignificant.

GENTLEMEN PREFER SUCCUBI is a lighthearted first book in a series that promises to be a lot of fun. Jackie is a great heroine- a woman wanting to be respected for her mind and her work in the museum who is suddenly endowed with the “gifts” of the succubus. Her new best friend, Remy, is practically her polar opposite on the surface and yet at their core, both characters are loyal to a fault.

Jill Myles weaves some interesting mythology into her world building. GENTLEMEN PREFER SUCCUBI delves into the history of angels, vampires, and even Egyptology to create a world that is ripe for future stories. Jackie’s penchant for stumbling into trouble only increases the likelihood that we’ll see more of the boundaries of the world in future books.

GENTLEMEN PREFER SUCCUBI has, as one would expect from the folklore surrounding the succubus, a lot of sexual innuendo. Jackie’s obvious discomfort with her new role is what makes this tale work, however, as she is determined not to become a sex slave of any sort. Jackie’s feelings towards both Noah and Zane add an interesting twist but it is the clever ending that has me wanting to read the next book immediately. Highly recommended!
