FSB agent Yanna Andrevka’s younger sister Elena has disappeared and Yanna believes she has fallen into the clutches of Taiwan's black market sex-trafficking trade. Yanna sets herself up to follow her sister into captivity in order to save her. Meanwhile, her love interest, Delta Force Captain David Curtiss, is deep undercover trying to nail the head of the Twin Serpents, a mafia ring responsible for major drug running, people trafficking and various other crimes. Both Yanna and David are horrified when their paths coincide and they have to run for their lives… only to run right back into danger as they try to locate Elena and bring down the Serpents.

The tension and action just doesn’t let up in this third Mission: Russia book from Susan May Warren. Don’t start Wiser Than Serpents unless you have time to devote reading it in one sitting. It will grab you and not let go! All of our favorite characters from the previous Mission: Russia books are back working together to keep their countries and their loved ones safe. Those who particularly enjoyed Vicktor and Grace will be delighted with their significant subplot in this novel. David (Preach) was a favorite character of mine from the previous novels, so I am delighted to finally see him get his own story.

While the faith of David and Roman and Vicktor are important to the story, I felt this book, more than the previous two, focuses on the James Bond-like action/adventure rather than the actual faith journey of the characters. The main faith conflict surrounded David’s determination to maintain distance with his feelings for Yanna because she is not a Christian. The subject of the story, sex-trafficking, while treated realistically, is not presented in graphic detail, but the novel does do an excellent job of bringing this real-life tragedy to light. Kudos to Ms. Warren for donating a portion of her proceeds from this novel to organizations involved in fighting human trafficking in the world today. Fabulous read!
