Regan Samuels is a divorced mother of a teenaged son. She allows herself to be talked into participating in a charity auction, only she is the one on the auction block! Mortified, she stands on the stage as the auctioneer tries to get the gentlemen in the audience to bid on a date with her. When the winning bidder picks her up for their date, she is further horrified to discover that he is the motorcycle riding youth pastor of a local church. She is SO not pastor’s girlfriend material, but their lives seem to become more closely entwined despite their best efforts as they try to help Regan’s teenaged son adjust to their new life. Preacher Man had many of the plot elements I love in a good romance. The whimsy of a bachelorette charity auction, a preacher hero who has interesting personality twists, and characters who spend their lives trying to follow the path God has set for them. Somehow, though, the story fell a little flat for me. It was difficult for me to become engaged with the heroine; perhaps this in part is due to me not sharing some of the life experiences the heroine had lived through and other readers may identify much more strongly with Regan. I did particularly love the scene at the youth rally when Regan arrives; the testimony there was outstanding. This book would be a nice, safe read for a dismal rainy day. Reviewed by Crystal |
