Get ready for another wild, unconventional ride into Corsicana, Texas with Deeanne Gist's newest release, DEEP IN THE HEART OF TROUBLE. The sequel to COURTING TROUBLE, the story picks up after Esther Spreckelmeyer has made peace with God's plan for her life. Independent and outspoken, she promotes her bicycle club in her outrageous bloomers and still finds time to help her father manage their growing oil company. Even when she disagrees with his judgment when he hires Tony Morgan.

Tony Morgan is the disinherited son of an oil baron (one of the Spreckelmeyer's largest competitors). With nothing but the clothes on his back, Tony takes on an assumed name and applies for a job hoping to learn the business so he can make his own fortune someday. Sparks fly between Tony and Essie immediately, but the last thing he wants to do is get involved with the headstrong blonde who argues with him at every turn. But before he knows it, he's heading into uncharted territory and falling in love.

I loved Essie in COURTING TROUBLE, so it is no surprise that I was delighted to see her finally get her happy ever after. DEEP IN THE HEART OF TROUBLE is full of the kind of amusing antics I have come to expect from Deeanne Gist.

Just when Essie has started to enjoy her unmarried lot in life, Tony Morgan enters the picture and throws a monkey wrench into her carefully planned life. Now she must struggle to come to grips with this new direction. If God's plan was for her to remain single, why now does He tempt her by dangling Tony Morgan in front of her?

Tony is a great counterpart for Essie. Ms. Gist gives him just the right amount of vulnerability by stripping him of his inheritance while still making him a strong hero determined to do right by his mother and sister. I loved the banter between Tony and Essie. It was extremely enjoyable to watch two stubborn people fall in love.

The secondary characters in this story shine just as much as the leads. I adored how the older woman in town pushed Tony to read her romance novels as if they held all the answers to his dilemmas. Ms. Gist does not skimp on characterization one bit and we are left feeling as if the townsfolk of Corsicana are truly our friends.

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TROUBLE provides readers with an inspiring lesson in the meaning of God's time. It is easy for us to want to become impatient and try to push our lives in the direction that we want it to go. Easier still to balk when God gives us a new direction. But only through prayer and reflection will we learn that all good things do come in God's time.
