Sitcom sweetheart Georgie York is tired of putting on a brave face whenever her big box office ex-husband shows up in the tabloids with his perfect new wife. And when those papers announce that the new wife is pregnant, it is the last straw for Georgie. She breaks down and flees to Vegas where she runs into her detestable former costar Bramwell Shepard. She should’ve stayed far away from Bram, but somehow, after a whirlwind night in the City of Sin, she wakes up married to the man! To save her image, Georgie and Bram strike a bargain to remain married for the period of one year—an arrangement that will benefit them both—but before the year is out, Georgie will come to learn just exactly how much she’s willing to do for Bram’s love. WHAT I DID FOR LOVE isn’t just a must read book; it is a run-to-the-bookstore-and-knock-people-aside-to-snatch-this-book-off-the-shelf kind of must read. It is absolutely amazing. Funny, tender, complex…this captivating book has it all. I am constantly wowed by Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ ability to cut through to the heart of relationships. Her characters are so real, their flaws so endearing, that one can’t help but be completely drawn into their story. And, it’s not just the leads. Ms. Phillips secondary characters are every bit as complex and real. I loved Chaz and Aaron every bit as much as Georgie and Bram. This book is filled with laugh-out-loud moments, but there is an underlying poignancy to these moments that keeps them from being too farcical. I laughed with Georgie, I cried with her, but more importantly, I understood her. Though I would have loved to see more of Bram’s point-of-view, the glimpses we are given are enough to make readers fall even more in love with the tarnished hero. And then there’s the ‘play’ between Georgie and Bram. Each scene shows readers just how fine a line there is between love and hate. Their banter is electric, their chemistry sizzling, and readers can’t help but eat up every minute of it. I promised myself that I would savor this book, but once I started it, I could not put it down. Each page enticed me to read ‘just one more’ until I got to the end and discovered I had no more pages left to read. Even then, I wanted to go back to the beginning and star all over again. I highly and whole-heartedly recommend WHAT I DID FOR LOVE.
