Four years ago Bobby Reynolds allegedly murdered his wife and children and then promptly disappeared. There are some people in Lake Chinook Oregon who believe in Bobby’s innocence and some who thought it was only a matter of time before he snapped. Jane Kelly followed Tim Murphy, Bobby’s best friend, from California to Oregon in search of her happily ever after. However, that dream came to a vicious end when she didn’t believe in Bobby’s innocence. The mystery surrounding the Reynolds case is renewed when Bobby’s mother, Tess, hires Jane to investigate if Bobby’s dad has been hiding Bobby for all these years. Tess’ motives are not altruistic but will Jane be able to solve this mystery before another person winds up dead? Candy Apple Red is the first venture into the life of Jane Kelly, process server extraordinaire. As with most debut novels in a series, the pace of the story was a bit slow due to the introduction of all the characters. By the end of Candy Apple Red the characters are still under developed, however there is something special about the characters that have this reader eagerly wanting to read the next addition, Electric Blue. It is incredibly impressive to me as a reader that even though I thought I knew “who dun it”, I wasn’t ever positive until it was finally revealed. Nancy Bush did an amazing job of winding the story back onto itself without ever overburdening the reader with too many “red herrings” The Jane Kelly is series is smart and quirky, an addictive blend of both has this reader jumping into Electric Blue in order to find out what happens to the newest “it girl” on my to be read shelf.
