Dragons left the land a long time ago, but there are rumors of a special person, the Negh, who will resurrect the relationship once held sacred…. Gaelige Elf Rhyden Fabhcun is struggling with a love he cannot consummate, a love that would destroy everything. At sea with his good friend, Captain Aedhir Fainne, Rhyden also has a promise to fulfill about an ancient talisman. Little does Rhyden know but Aedhir is fleeing his own demons. Meanwhile, elves are considered magical, often feared by those of a superstitious nature. Will the shipmates rise in mutiny against Rhyden or do they have a far more devious plan in place? What part will Rhyden play in finding the dragons? Step inside this magical fantasy world as Sara Reinke will sweep you away into a land of legend and myth. BOOK OF DRAGONS is the continuing saga that first begun in BOOK OF DAYS and BOOK OF THIEVES. However, the stories started in this first BOOK OF DRAGONS are all inclusive; the past history mentioned in the two prior books is referenced when it is necessary. BOOK OF DRAGONS is thus easily a stand alone, although be warned that this is the first book in a series and therefore it is not in and of itself complete as there are definitely threads left hanging for the next installment. Sara Reinke has created a world that literally sweeps you away into a time when dragons seem like a real possibility. The myths and legends are epical in their intensity and the degree of heroism shown. Rhyden and Aedhir are the main heroes in this saga, but Temuchin, Wen Poel, Pryce Finamur, and Odhran Frankley all play important roles as well. Readers will need to be patient as with any long running epic for the story develops in much the manner as any good fantasy tale; the plot is gradually unveiled and the pieces start fitting together as each page is turned. I have been impressed by Sara Reinke’s writing in the past, but BOOK OF DRAGONS solidifies for me that she is an author to watch! Reviewed by Debbie |
